Write a letter to your parents telling them what's going on in your life... that they should know about and don't

Dear Mom,

I'm writing to tell you how much I love "Pablo." I know you don't like him, but it's the truth. I would like you and the rest of the family to understand that and accept it. You guys don't like him because he's 18 and I'm only 17. But Mom, age doesn't matter when you love and care for a person. If you guys don't understand that, I can't do anything about it.

With Love,
Your Daughter

Dear Parents,

As I get older, I'm moving farther and farther away from you. Sometimes I think about all my memories of us being together, our happy and sad moments. I've felt so isolated from you since the moment we arrived in the U.S. to search for a new life and future.

I have some complaints for both of you for not being educated or able to help me with homework and other things. It's hard for me to do everything, like speak for myself when you're supposed to speak for me, or go places alone when you're supposed to be with me.

I needed you to encourage my success when I got 85 on my report card, but I didn't get that. I needed someone to show me how to travel on the subway my first time, and to show me new routes and places, but I learned everything by myself.

There have been times I got beat up in school and people made fun of my physical appearance. I wasn't able to tell you. I felt and I still feel embarrassed about expressing anything to you about my life.

My biggest complaint is to you, Dad. You never tried to learn to speak or write English so you could get a good job to support us. Our house is so small that I can't bring friends over. I don't have the privacy my friends do. I don't have my own room and sometimes I need to be alone so I can think and study in silence.

I don't have the privileges that other people my age get. All I want is for you guys to provide me with the things I need most and listen to me sometimes. I think it's too late to tell you everything. Besides, you guys didn't have an easier or fancier life than I've had. But I thank you for the love you did provide me with.

Your Son
