26f/17m consentual what is legal?

I'm trying to do some research on this but am getting mixed info. Iv geared a minor having sexual relations of any kind w an adult is illegal but I'm also reading grey areas that are really confusing. Iv read that the age if consent in California is 17 so does that mean its ok? I'm really confused and don't want to do anything stupid.
