I asked an friend of mine who is an officer in Virginia. He himself said he had done the same thing at his age with an ex-girlfriend… and he is now a police officer. He said to be up front and honest, and ask for the chance to explain yourself. He said this was not uncommon question, because he said many officers have been in this situation.
